Open Road Media and Barcelona eBooks Announce a New International Publishing Partnership

(April 26, 2012) Open Road Integrated Media, an established digital publisher and multimedia content company, and Barcelona eBooks, a new English-language digital publishing house with offices in both Barcelona and New York, announced today that they have formed an international digital publishing partnership.

Jane Friedman, cofounder and CEO of Open Road, said that “Barcelona eBooks is a formidable independent publisher, founded by the incomparable Blanca Rosa Roca, with a unique catalog that will appeal to English readers everywhere.  We are excited about our agreement with Barcelona eBooks.  The new partnership builds upon our International Publishing Program that was recently launched with The Mondadori Group of Italy.”

Barcelona eBooks will be on sale in North America and around the world in the English language this summer.  They will be available from Amazon.com,  Apple iBookstore, BarnesandNoble.com, Google/IndieBound, Kobo Books, OverDrive, and the Sony Reader Store.

Blanca Rosa Roca, Barcelona eBooks cofounder and CEO, divides her time between homes in Northern Spain and New York City. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Jane Friedman and her talented team at Open Road Media,” she said.  “As Open Road has done so successfully, Barcelona eBooks will publish new works by exciting writers as well as a wide variety of selections from our backlists.”

Among the first selections of Barcelona eBooks will be works based on the beloved city that gives the publishing house its name.  Featured will be Noah Gordon’s most recent historical novel, The Winemaker, set in the vineyards of Catalonia and Languedoc against the backdrop of the Carlist War.  Although The Winemaker already has been a best seller in a number of languages in Europe and in South America, it will be published in English for the first time. The digital publishers also will go into the Noah Gordon backlist to publish half a dozen other titles, among them best-sellers and prize-winners—The Physician, Shaman, Matters of Choice, The Death Committee, The Jerusalem Diamond, and The Rabbi.

Other books to be published this summer by Open Road and Barcelona eBooks will include A Barcelona Heiress, by Sergio Vila-Sanjuán:  The Street of Three Beds, by Roser Caminals;  Things That Happen to You in Barcelona When You’re Thirty, by Llúcia Ramis;  and An American in Barcelona: The Man Who Brought Light to Catalonia, by Xavier Moret.
