Open Road Launches ‘Short Shots’ With Bradford Morrow’s Novella Fall Of The Birds

‘Short Shots’ Are Fiction and Non-Fiction Titles Told in a Short Form

(November 8th, 2011) Open Road Integrated Media, a digital publisher and multimedia content company, announced today that it is launching “Short Shots,” a new publishing program for short fiction and non-fiction titles. Open Road’s first “Short Shot” is Bradford Morrow’s novella Fall of The Birds, a provocative tale about a world without birds.

Open Road’s “Short Shots” will be titles from emerging and established authors across genres that communicate an idea or tell a story in a short form. They will be distributed across all etailers. Morrow’s Fall of the Birds will be published as part of Amazon’s Singles program and will be available at other etailers.

Cofounder and CEO Jane Friedman said: “Short Shots provide a new way to expand our relationships with our authors and to create original content for readers looking for a quick but satisfying read. We are excited to publish Bradford Morrow’s brilliant novella and look forward to working with all etailers on this new format.”

The idea for Fall of the Birds came out of Morrow’s relationship with Open Road, which already digitally publishes a selection of his backlist titles. During an interview with Open Road’s production team, Brad revealed that he is an avid birder, when the producer asked him to imagine a world without birds. Morrow found the idea so provocative that it became Fall of the Birds, a novella about a man who tracks an inexplicable plague of bird deaths, and the mystery’s effect on his family. Fall of the Birds is a moving story of a haunting near-future and a tribute to the power of love that can survive even the most harrowing of circumstances.

Open Road will produce marketing videos around Fall of the Birds and its other “Short Shots.” These videos, along with other curated and original marketing materials, will be distributed through Open Road’s online platform as well as syndicated to online content partners.

Open Road has previously published short-form content. Earlier this year, Open Road partnered with Cosmopolitan, to publish and market Cosmo’s first-ever fiction e-book, featuring three stories from the magazine.
